Summer??

I know this is about to depress some of you, but I feel like it just hit me.  Tonight is pretty much my last carefree night of the summer.  Wednesday we leave for Delaware/vacation, and immediate upon returning, I need to be at work.  Not that I haven't been in my classroom more days over the last 2 weeks than not.  But I officially need to be back at work in a week.

So the next week...

Tomorrow- pack and do last minute things
Wed- Head to DE
Thurs-Sat- Spend time with grandma, grandma, aunt and uncle in DE
Sat-Mon- Vacation with Aron in Atlantic City

Tues-Wednesday- Professional Development
Thurs- FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

Where did summer go?  I feel like there were 1000 things in my mind that I wanted to do, and I didn't do nearly enough of them.  But part of me is also ready to go back to work.  Is that weird?

Droid

My new Droid X came today. I love it already. It has definitely helped my desire for an iPhone. Plus I love the google compatibility so I can sync my calendar and email easily...and also my blog! I am very excited about the idea of blogging from my cellphone.

I also no longer have a need to type. All i have to do is press the microphone and dictate to my blog. In fact i just did this whole paragraph while talking to my phone, and it only made 1 mistake.

I am in love with my new droid!!

Since I have ventured into the world of E-readers, I will share what I have been reading.

Shit My Dad Says by Justin Halpern

This book is an account of Justin's relationship with his dad, and the tactful words of wisdom that his dad imparted on him during his life.  Each chapter ends with words of wisdom his dad had on every aspect of life.  I found his dad hilarious, yet heartwarming at the same time.  And also slightly reminiscent of my childhood.  And since this is based on his twitter, I am now a loyal follower, and patiently awaiting the sitcom on CBS.

I give this book an A- and recommend it to a friend.

Nook = Love

It is summer, and even as a newlywed (am I still considering a Newlywed? But that is a topic for another time), I have found my summer love.

And its name is Nook.

Thanks to the wonderful generosity of my students, I found myself with a load of Barnes and Noble and Visa Gift cards.  I thought about the books I could by, and then I remembered that I have been obsessing over the Kindle.  I did some googling and side by side comparisons, and made the decision to use the money towards a Nook.  And I am in LOVE.

I have already read more this summer than at most other points in my life.  I am currently engrossed in Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccoult.  I am having trouble putting it down.  But I love the ease in which I can carry my Nook around and read everywhere.

Sunday I leave for North Carolina, and I am ready excited about reading the entire plane ride.

A better home and garden

Aron has started a fruit and vegetable garden outside the house, and I am so excited at the thought of freshly grown produce this summer. He is planting peppers, garlic, tomato, spinach, lettuce, green beans, strawberries and raspberries. Even if only a few work out, I am still hopeful that I will not have to be a slave to Stop and Shop all summer. I want to have everyone over for a BBQ and serve a home grown salad!

Speaking of everyone over for a BBQ...this weekend is another merging of the families. In order to make life easier, we are hosting the mothers at our house for Mother's Day. Parents, grandparents, and possibly siblings from both of our families will descend upon our house for a BBQ. I agreed to this before the broken leg...so this should be interesting to say the least.

The Broken Leg Update

Life has been passing by so fast, that updating hasn't happened. But now that I am spending all of my free time sitting on the couch with my leg elevated, time seems to be all that I have.

So I fell the other night, in a move that can only be called dumb. I was standing on something that was high up and forgot. Just completely forgot that I was high off the ground. So I proceeded to step backwards, thinking I was a mere inches away from stepping on the soft grass. Wrong! I'll spare the details of what happened next, but Aron and I ended up in the Emergency Room on Thursday night.

When the doctor said it was broken, I was actually shocked. I was expecting twisted or pulled or something like that. But thankfully it was high up on the fibula, in a non weight bearing spot. I'll be ok, once I recover from the case of dumb that I seem to have caught.

The Mile High Blog

As I sit here and blog thousands of feet above ground, I can't help but be amazed. I am sitting here on the airplane on the way to Florida. A trip I take quite often (Westchester to West Palm. Also known as the grandkid shuttle over Presidents week. 90% of my fellow passengers are on the way to grandma's house). But this is the my very first mid air wifi experience. It cost me $10 for the trip, but playing boggle and tending to farmville while on the plane seem more than worth the cost.

Oh, my poor neglected blog. I mean to write more. Really, I do.

Since I left you last, the 6 month anniversary of Aron and Jule: The Newyleds came and went, as did our first Valentine's Day as a married couple. I have to say, Aron did a pretty amazing job. We celebrated with a hockey weekend of Sound Tigers games with an Islanders game sandwiched in. Aside from the pretty pink North Face fleece Aron got me, he also won me the chance to see Jeff Tambellini, and of course bought me a new stick to get signed. I bought him the new Sound Tiger jersey. He has already worn it 3 times.

In house news, our little home seems to be hibernating for the winter, much like me. The basement and roof projects were completed by Thanksgiving. Aron has been turning the downstairs into his man cave/hockey room/beer display. New deck in the spring? Hopefully.

We hosted a successful superbowl party, which is much easier to do in a house with ample seating, rather than our tiny apartment.

Blog, I promise to update you again soon. But not a lot of battery left, and still an hour until we land.
